Thrifty Thursday - Valentines Day Decorations!

It's that time of year again.  The cold weather has kept the kids in the house for MONTHS now, and they're starting to get really restless.  Soooo, today's Thrifty Thursday topic will help keep those kiddos busy for a bit!

Today we'll be working on coffee filter hearts to hang on the windows to cheer up the dreary weather and get ready for Valentine's Day!

Materials Needed:
Coffee Filters
Markers
Scissors
Spritzing water bottle
Tape

This project is super easy for kids of all ages to participate in.  We will have a 5 year old, 3 year old and 2 year old doing this project at my house today, and I think they'll all do great!

First, take your coffee filters and let the kids color them with the markers.  Squiggles, shapes and anything colorful will be great!

Once all of the filters have been colored with the markers, take the water bottle and spray the filters.  The colors will bleed, creating a watercolor, or stained glass type of effect.

Next, the coffee filters need to dry well.  Let them dry during lunch and nap time, or use a hair dryer on a cool, low setting to speed up the process.

Once the filters are dry, fold the filters in half and then cut out a heart shape with the scissors.  For fancy hearts use scrapbooking edging scissors with scallops or zig zags.  To fancy them up even more you can fold the hearts and then cut smaller hearts from the inside of the heart.

Once you have them all cut out they are ready to be hung on the walls or on the windows with tape to spruce up the house for Valentine's Day.  The sun will shine through the colors and look very pretty!  Great way to bring some cheerfulness to your home during the cold, gray winter days!
